Description
TERROIR
In 2005 the “Corbières-Boutenac” Cru was born, bringing together the best of the Corbières terroir. Its soil is clay-limestone with more gravelly mounds of rounded pebbles, of low fertility. The vines face south/south-west and are backed against a rocky hill
GRAPE VARIETIES
40% old-vine Carignan, 30% Syrah, 20% Grenache, 10% Mourvèdre
GROWING METHOD
These vines are harvested by hand, and late. This cuvée is built on the oldest vines, with the ripest and best-balanced grapes. These are the last cuvées pressed at the winery
AGEING POTENTIAL
Can be kept for 10 to 15 years
AGEING
Part of the wine is aged in new oak barrels for 12 months. The oaked and unoaked portions are blended to make a wine that reflects the terroir of Château Saint-Estève. Not filtered at bottling. A natural deposit may be present
TASTING
Its colour is a deep red. Complex nose of ripe fruit and sweet spices, with oak that is present but not overdone. On the palate, a fine attack, tremendous volume, mellow tannins, and a lovely balance between the indulgence and spice of the Grenache, the aromatics and freshness of the Carignan, and the breeding of the Syrah. The finish is long and pleasant – an epicurean’s wine
