Description
A red blend from the south of France, from an organic grower at Château de Flaugergues. Vivid colour from the dark Mourvèdre and Carignan grapes, with spice and fruit lifted by the Syrah and Cinsault. An excellent dinner wine, ideal with roasts, stews and root vegetables. Fermented with indigenous yeasts and unfined.
The estate’s first red wine, Marceau Rimbert, Rimbert’s son, born during the first harvest of the new estate. A difficult start, tremendous results: this wine is what Jean-Marie calls “the best quality-price-pleasure ratio”, a supple, mouth-watering wine ready for any pleasure, provided it is served chilled.
Vineyard: A selection of the estate’s various schist plots, certified organic
Grape varieties: 15% Carignan, 50% Syrah, 15% Cinsaut, 20% Mourvèdre
Winemaking: The grapes are harvested by hand and destemmed, then fermented spontaneously with only gentle extraction from the cap. The wine ferments and ages in tank to retain its freshness, and undergoes light filtration and fining before being bottled by gravity with a little sulphur.
Tasting note: Ruby in the glass with purple highlights. The nose is full of crushed red fruit, plum, blueberry and notes of saddle leather, underpinned by crushed stone. The palate is supple, offering flavours of red and black fruit supported by silky minerality and a touch of acidity.
Pairings: Serve with grilled meats, mature cheeses, hearty stews and spicy pasta dishes. Or simply on its own, lightly chilled.)
