Description
From the prestigious Grand Cras climat, lying below the Côte du Py, this Morgon from Domaine Ruet expresses with finesse the typicity of soils rich in decomposed schist and manganese. These terroirs give the wine firm structure, mineral depth and a fine capacity for ageing.
Made from Gamay noir à jus blanc from vines averaging 45 years old, this wine benefits from sustainable, or even organic, viticulture depending on the vintage, with meticulous work in the vineyard (green harvesting, controlled grass cover, ploughing). The grapes are picked by hand, carefully sorted, then put into vat as whole bunches for a traditional Beaujolais semi-carbonic vinification.
Maceration lasts between 12 and 18 days, with light, carefully controlled pump-overs to encourage extraction while preserving the finesse of the tannins. After running off, the wine is aged in concrete tanks or large oak casks for about 9 to 12 months, allowing the aromas to refine without masking the character of the terroir.
On tasting, the Morgon Grand Cras shows a deep ruby colour. The nose is complex and expressive, blending black cherry, plum, liquorice, violet and a light touch of graphite. On the palate, the texture is velvety, with fine density and supple yet present tannins. The finish is long, fresh and saline, promising excellent ageing potential (5 to 8 years).
A wine for fine dining, ideal with a dry-aged cut of beef, duck breast or mature cheeses such as farmhouse Saint-Nectaire.
