Description
The Julienas AOP – Château Bonnet – Vieilles Vignes is a remarkable wine that reflects all the richness and complexity of the Julienas terroir, one of the ten crus of Beaujolais. It comes from old vines grown on granite and sand soils, ideal for the Gamay grape, which here gives a pure, refined expression of this terroir. Château Bonnet, renowned for its sustainable viticulture, makes this wine using environmentally friendly practices, allowing it to capture the essence of the terroir while preserving great purity in its wines.
The winemaking of the Julienas Vieilles Vignes follows the traditional methods of Beaujolais, with temperature-controlled fermentation and a long maceration to extract all the aromas and colour from the grapes. Ageing takes place mainly in stainless steel vats or in oak barrels (depending on the cuvée), which allows the wine to retain its freshness and fruitiness, while giving it a fine structure. The result is a wine that perfectly combines tradition and innovation, while showcasing the unique character of the Julienas terroir.
The Julienas Vieilles Vignes 2022 shows a bright ruby red colour with purple tints, characteristic of the young, fresh wines of the Beaujolais. The nose is very expressive and offers fine aromatic complexity, dominated by notes of ripe red fruit, notably black cherry, raspberry and blueberry. These fresh fruit aromas are enriched with nuances of violet, liquorice and gentle pepper, along with subtler touches of garrigue and damp earth, bearing witness to the origin of the grapes.
On the palate, this wine stands out for its ample and balanced mouthfeel, with lovely acidity supporting the wine’s structure. The tannins are fine and silky, giving the wine a velvety texture and great fluidity. The finish is long and lingers on aromas of ripe red fruit, with spicy touches that add an extra dimension to the whole.
The 2022 Julienas Vieilles Vignes is a wine that is at once elegant, structured and harmonious. It can be enjoyed now for its freshness and fruitiness, but it also has excellent ageing potential, improving over the years and developing more complex, nuanced aromas.
This wine pairs perfectly with grilled meats, dishes in sauce such as bœuf bourguignon or rabbit in mustard sauce, or with mature cheeses such as Comté or Gruyère. Serve between 14 and 16°C for the best tasting experience.
