Description
From the prestigious “Voujon” climat, in the commune of Odenas, this Brouilly 2023 from Domaine Ruet showcases the richness and finesse of the granite terroir of the southern Beaujolais. Planted with Gamay noir à jus blanc, this vineyard enjoys an ideal mid-slope exposure, encouraging optimal ripeness of the grapes while retaining lovely freshness.
The vines, 30 to 60 years old, are farmed according to the principles of sustainable agriculture. The harvest is by hand, with rigorous sorting of the bunches. Vinification, in typical Beaujolais style, is carried out with whole bunches, with semi-carbonic maceration for 10 to 12 days in concrete tanks. This method preserves the brightness of the fruit while adding depth and complexity. Ageing continues in stainless steel tanks for several months, to retain the purity of the Gamay.
On tasting, the colour is a bright ruby red with violet tints. The nose shows marked aromatic intensity: fresh cherry, raspberry, peony and a hint of sweet spice. On the palate, the wine is supple on the attack, with a silky texture, crunchy fruit and a fine tannic structure that adds length. The finish is lively and mouth-watering, revealing the delicious, dynamic character of the 2023 vintage.
This “Voujon” Brouilly is best served lightly chilled, now or over the next 3 to 5 years, with fine charcuterie, grilled meats or bistro cooking.
