Description
The Brouilly 2022 from Domaine Georges Descombes is a magnificent expression of the Beaujolais terroir, with particular attention paid to the quality of the vines and to respect for the environment. This Beaujolais cru, on the slopes of Mont Brouilly, enjoys a granite terroir that is ideal for growing Gamay, the region’s flagship grape variety. The estate follows a natural approach to winegrowing, keeping chemical interventions to a minimum so that the vine can express its terroir as faithfully as possible.
The grapes are harvested by hand, with rigorous sorting so that only the best bunches are kept. Fermentation takes place traditionally in stainless-steel tanks with a cold pre-fermentation maceration, encouraging the extraction of the fruity aromas of Gamay. Fermentation then continues as semi-carbonic, a method that preserves the freshness of the fruit while giving rich, complex aromas. Ageing, for its part, takes place in stainless-steel tanks to retain the wine’s freshness and vivacity, while allowing it to evolve with finesse.
The Brouilly 2022 from the Descombes estate shows a bright red colour, brilliant and vivid. On the nose it expresses pure aromas of fresh red fruit such as cherry, raspberry and subtle hints of violet, all enhanced by spicy and lightly floral touches. This aromatic palette is a true tribute to the Brouilly terroir, where the granite soils give the wine its typical minerality.
On the palate the wine stands out for its suppleness, its freshness and its perfect balance. The tannins are fine, well integrated, and support crunchy, generous fruit. The structure is light and fluid, yet the wine keeps a fine length on the palate, with a finish of red fruit and a hint of liquorice. This Brouilly 2022 is ready to drink, but it can also develop well over a few years, gaining further complexity.
This Brouilly AOP pairs perfectly with a variety of dishes: grilled meats, dishes in sauce, charcuterie, as well as mature cheeses such as Comté or Cantal. It is best served slightly chilled, between 14 and 16°C.
