Description
VDF – Domaine Bonetto Fabrol – Mas Vincente white is a singular, generous cuvée that reflects the estate’s free spirit. Outside the confines of the appellations, this Vin de France allows for creative expression, built around an unusual, well-mastered blend from carefully selected terroirs in the Drôme provençale.
The 2023 vintage showcases a trio of southern grape varieties: Viognier, Grenache blanc and Clairette, sometimes complemented by a touch of a little-known variety depending on the plot and the vintage. The vines, grown on stony clay-limestone soils, enjoy generous sunshine and cool nights, giving the grapes a slow, balanced ripening that favours aromatic complexity while retaining lovely freshness.
The grapes are harvested by hand, with rigorous sorting of the bunches in the plot. They are then gently pressed, and the juices are cold-settled to preserve aromatic clarity. Alcoholic fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled stainless steel vats, to preserve the fruit and liveliness. Ageing continues on fine lees for several months, with occasional lees stirring to add roundness and volume.
On tasting, the colour is pale yellow with silvery tints. The nose reveals lovely intensity, with notes of white-fleshed fruit (peach, pear), citrus (lemon zest, mandarin) and white flowers (hawthorn, honeysuckle), with a light touch of honey. On the palate, the attack is clean and lively, supported by lovely mineral tension, then rounds out with a silky texture and an elegantly fruity finish, slightly saline.
This white wine is just as suited to the aperitif as to gourmet pairings with grilled fish, Asian dishes, fresh cheeses or a summer salad.
