Description
The La Pucelle 2022 cuvée, classified as Premier Cru, comes from an emblematic Rully terroir in the middle of the slope, on clay-limestone soils rich in white marl, offering excellent drainage and a pronounced mineral expression. Facing south-east, the plot enjoys optimal sunshine, allowing gradual and complete ripening of the Chardonnay.
Emmanuel Giboulot, a leading figure of biodynamic winegrowing in Burgundy, tends this vineyard according to the strictest principles of respect for living things: plant-based treatments, gentle ploughing, no chemical inputs whatsoever and hand harvesting. The 2022 vintage, marked by a hot summer balanced by cool nights, produced concentrated, aromatically rich and perfectly healthy grapes.
After a slow, gentle pressing, the must ferments spontaneously with indigenous yeasts. The wine is then aged on fine lees for 12 months in old oak barrels (no new wood), without lees stirring and with minimal sulphiting. This approach to ageing aims to preserve the authenticity of the terroir, the aromatic precision and the natural tension of the wine.
On the nose, the Rully La Pucelle 2022 develops subtle aromas of pear, white peach, acacia blossom and a touch of fresh almond. On the palate, the attack is ample and elegant, supported by lovely acidity and a fine chalky frame. The whole is balanced and pure, with a saline, persistent finish that marks a wine both complex and easy to drink.
Ideal with fine fish, poultry in cream sauce or pressed-curd cheeses, this wine offers good ageing potential of 5 to 8 years, while already being approachable today after a brief decanting.
