Alfred Gratien began making sparkling wines in Saumur (Loire); after this experience, he acquired a cellar in Champagne so as to also produce quality sparkling wines in the most prestigious sparkling wine region in the world. The winegrower Albert Meyer joined the Loire project and, years later, became a partner, adding his name to that of the Gratiens.
