Description
The Pouilly-Loché AOP – Le Bourg from Domaine Marcel Couturier is an exceptional cuvée from the Le Bourg plot, a terroir renowned for the quality of its Chardonnay. This wine embodies all the richness and finesse of the great appellations of southern Burgundy.
The vines, 30 to 40 years old, grow on clay-limestone soils typical of the region, which allow slow and perfect ripening of the grapes. The estate practises sustainable vineyard management, seeking to preserve the integrity of the soils and biodiversity, in order to produce environmentally friendly wines.
The grapes are picked by hand at full ripeness to guarantee the best possible fruit quality. After the manual harvest, the bunches are gently pressed to obtain a must of great purity. Fermentation takes place in oak barrels (mainly ones that have held 2 to 3 previous wines), allowing natural fermentation with indigenous yeasts. The wine is then aged on fine lees for 10 to 12 months, with light lees stirring, which gives it texture and complexity while preserving its freshness.
On tasting, this Pouilly-Loché shows a brilliant pale gold colour, a sign of its youth and purity. The nose is delicate and expressive, revealing aromas of ripe white fruit, peach and pear, combined with touches of fresh citrus and a mineral note typical of limestone terroirs. On the palate, the attack is lively and fruity, followed by fine breadth, with an elegant, balanced structure. The finish is long and slightly saline, offering a lovely sense of freshness and purity.
This Pouilly-Loché AOP is a refined, harmonious wine that will pair perfectly with seafood, fish in sauce, poultry in cream sauce or goat’s cheeses. Serve at 11-13°C; it can be enjoyed now, but it also has good ageing potential of 3 to 5 years, during which it will develop further complexity.
