Description
Located on the heights of Loché, the Longues Terres plot expresses the very essence of the southern Mâconnais terroirs, in a cuvée with a finely chiselled, mineral profile, carried by the elegance of Chardonnay. Domaine Marcel Couturier, true to its rigorous, artisanal approach, showcases here a pure expression of the grape variety and the place.
The soil is made up of limestone marls and fine clays, bringing both structure and tension. The vines, farmed with a sustainable approach that respects biodiversity, are more than 35 years old, ensuring fine concentration in the berries.
After harvesting by hand at optimal ripeness, the grapes are whole-bunch pressed, then the must is cold-settled before fermentation. Fermentation takes place in oak barrels that have held several previous wines, with indigenous yeasts, over several weeks. Ageing continues on fine lees for 10 to 12 months, with measured lees stirring to preserve freshness while gaining aromatic complexity.
On tasting, the wine shows a bright pale golden colour. The nose is subtle and expressive, with aromas of fresh pear, ripe lemon and white flowers and a delicate smoky touch. On the palate, the attack is lively, carried by assertive minerality, with lovely breadth and a long, saline finish.
This Mâcon-Loché charms with its balance between indulgence and tension, and pairs perfectly with crustaceans, white fish or roast poultry with herbs. It can also elegantly accompany refined vegetarian cuisine. Serve at 12 °C, and enjoy now or over the next 5 to 6 years.
