Description
The Cuvée Besset from Domaine de Rosiers is an exceptional single-plot cuvée, produced from a single parcel at the “Besset” lieu-dit on the heights of Vérin, at the northern tip of the Côte-Rôtie appellation. This higher-altitude terroir benefits from mica-schist and decomposed granite soils, which bring unique freshness and minerality to the wines. The vineyard is planted entirely with Syrah, from vines around 30 years old. The vines are farmed sustainably, with meticulous work in the vineyard and hand harvesting. After rigorous sorting, the grapes are partially destemmed, then fermented in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks for 2 to 3 weeks, with gentle maceration to extract the aromas and fine tannins. The wine is then aged for 20 months in French oak barrels (around 30% new). On tasting, the Cuvée Besset shows a deep ruby colour and a complex nose of black fruit (blackberry, blackcurrant), sweet spices, violet and fine oak. On the palate, it is balanced, with fine, racy tannins supported by lovely freshness and a mineral finish. This great wine for ageing (5 to 20 years) is an ideal match for red meat, game or matured cheeses. Alcohol: around 13.5%. Very limited production, around 1,500 bottles a year.
