The Condrieu 2022 from Domaine de Rosiers is an exceptional cuvée made exclusively from the Viognier grape, emblematic of this prestigious northern Rhône Valley appellation. The vineyard is located in Saint-Michel-sur-Rhône, on steep, well-exposed slopes with granite soils, which encourage optimal ripeness of the grapes while retaining lovely freshness.
The vines, 30 years old on average, are farmed sustainably, with particular attention paid to biodiversity and soil work. The harvest is done by hand, with rigorous sorting in the plot to keep only the healthiest, ripest bunches.
Vinification is carried out with care to reveal the aromatic complexity of Viognier while preserving its natural balance. After a gentle pressing, the must is fermented at low temperature to preserve the intensity of the floral and fruity aromas. Half of the wine is aged in stainless steel tanks, to retain the freshness and purity of the fruit, and half in oak barrels (some of them new), bringing roundness, richness and a subtle oaky touch. Ageing lasts about 6 months, on fine lees with moderate lees stirring.
On tasting, this Condrieu reveals a golden colour with brilliant glints. The nose is complex, expressive and refined, blending typical notes of white flowers (acacia, violet), apricot, vineyard peach, mango and a touch of vanilla and fresh butter. On the palate, the attack is smooth, full and generous, supported by a fresh backbone and a mineral, persistent finish. The balance between the natural richness of Viognier and the tension of the granite terroir makes it a wine that is both indulgent and elegant.
This 2022 Condrieu is an ideal companion for refined dishes: fine fish, shellfish, poultry in a creamy sauce, foie gras, or simply as an aperitif to appreciate its aromatic richness.
