Description
This Pinot Noir 2023 from Domaine de la Monette perfectly reflects the identity of the Côte Chalonnaise, and more precisely the Mellecey hillsides, a small wine village whose terroirs are gaining recognition. This cuvée highlights south-east-facing plots planted on shallow clay-limestone soils, which favour a fine, fruity expression of the grape variety.
The estate works with a sustainable and organic approach, with natural grass cover, treatments kept to the bare minimum and low-intervention winemaking. The harvest is carried out by hand, with sorting in the vineyard, guaranteeing healthy, ripe fruit.
In the cellar, the winemaking is based on alcoholic fermentation with indigenous yeasts, after partial or full destemming depending on the batch. Maceration lasts around 12 to 15 days, with light pump-overs to gently extract aromas and tannic structure. The wine is then aged in stainless steel tanks and old barrels for around 9 months, without any new oak, to preserve the authenticity of the fruit.
The result is a wine with a clear ruby colour and clean aromas of cherry, wild strawberry and redcurrant, accompanied by floral nuances (peony, violet) and a light touch of spice. On the palate, the attack is supple, the acidity fine and the tannins moderate, for a balanced, easy-drinking and delicately structured whole. The finish lingers on notes of small red berries and wet stone, the signature of the terroir.
This versatile Pinot Noir will go well with light dishes, white meats, a herb-roasted chicken, savoury tarts or mild cheeses. It is best enjoyed at 15–16 °C, and has an ageing potential of 3 to 5 years, depending on storage conditions.
