Description
The colour is dark and deep, while the nose, a little closed, shows subtlety with discreet touches of garrigue and mineral wisps. Power can be sensed from the first sip, but it is held back, rather like the nose. The whole is fairly firm and dense, marked by very ripe grapes, meaty, bloody flavours, a lovely texture, tannins that are present but candied rather than aggressive, a fine grain and real presence. In short, it is best to wait, without overdoing it. So in 3 to 5 years’ time, with small game, a rare squab, a thick-cut Charolais or Limousin steak, or duck breast with cranberries.
