Description
The Santenay “Clos des Cornières” 2023 from Domaine Chapelle is a wine of great class, made from Pinot Noir, the flagship grape of the Côte de Beaune, on an exceptional terroir. The Clos des Cornières, a historic climat of the Santenay appellation, lies on particularly well-exposed clay-limestone soil, allowing slow, even ripening of the grapes. The 2023 vintage benefited from favourable weather, with a mild spring and a hot summer, allowing the bunches to reach optimal ripeness.
The vines, grown organically, are rigorously managed, with environmentally friendly practices and controlled yields to ensure high grape quality. The harvest, carried out by hand, is followed by strict sorting of the bunches, guaranteeing healthy, ripe grapes.
Winemaking is carried out with absolute respect for the fruit, using traditional, low-intervention methods. After full destemming, the grapes are vinified in stainless steel fermentation tanks to preserve the purity of the aromas. Alcoholic fermentation takes place with indigenous yeasts at controlled temperatures to achieve a gentle, balanced extraction of the tannins. Ageing for 12 to 14 months in oak barrels (including a small proportion of new oak) allows the wine to knit together and develop a silky texture, while respecting the typicity of the terroir.
The 2023 Santenay “Clos des Cornières” reveals a vivid ruby colour, clear and bright. On the nose, it opens with complex aromas of ripe red fruit (cherry, raspberry), accompanied by floral notes (violet, peony) and light spices (white pepper, cinnamon), characteristic of Pinot Noir. On the palate, the attack is clean and elegant, with lovely freshness, supported by fine, well-integrated tannins. The structure is silky and the finish is long, with hints of fresh red fruit and a slightly terroir-driven note (limestone minerality) that lingers.
This Santenay Clos des Cornières 2023 is a wine that can be enjoyed now for its fruity, indulgent side, but it also has fine ageing potential. In the cellar, it can be kept for between 5 and 10 years, during which it will gain in complexity, evolving towards more developed aromas of forest floor and truffle.
A perfect wine to accompany refined dishes such as grilled red meats, dishes in sauce, mature cheeses or game dishes. This Santenay offers a fine expression of its terroir, both elegant and powerful, a must for Pinot Noir lovers.
