Description

The Santenay Blanc 2023 from Domaine Chapelle is a subtle, balanced expression of Chardonnay from the southern terroirs of the Côte de Beaune. Located at the foot of the first slopes of the Mont de Sène, the vineyard enjoys a slightly warmer climate, yet one that is always well ventilated, giving perfectly ripe grapes with a natural balance.

The vines, farmed under certified organic agriculture for many years, are planted on light clay-limestone soils that are well drained, encouraging finesse and minerality in the wine. The 2023 vintage enjoyed an even growing season, with an ideal alternation of sunshine and humidity, resulting in a healthy, balanced crop, harvested by hand in early September.

After a slow, gentle pressing of whole bunches, the must is settled naturally at low temperature. Alcoholic fermentation takes place in Burgundian oak barrels (a small proportion of them new) with indigenous yeasts, followed by a full malolactic fermentation. Ageing on fine lees continues for 10 to 12 months, with moderate lees stirring, to add volume and complexity while respecting the wine’s freshness.

In the glass, this white Santenay stands out with its clear, bright colour with pale gold highlights. The nose opens with elegant aromas of white flowers (hawthorn, acacia), candied lemon and fresh apple, accompanied by buttery, lightly toasted notes. On the palate, the attack is clean and taut, supported by well-integrated acidity; the frame is silky and the finish saline and persistent, marked by a fine mineral signature typical of the terroir.

This is a wine that combines precision, freshness and elegance, to be enjoyed now with grilled fish, shellfish, poultry in a creamy sauce or soft cheeses. It will also develop well in the cellar for 4 to 6 years.
