Description
The Saint-Véran La Cour des Bois is an exceptional cuvée from Domaine Marcel Couturier, named after a particular plot in Saint-Véran, an emblematic village of the Mâconnais. This cuvée showcases the purity and richness of Chardonnay, that noble grape variety, with an approach combining tradition and innovation.
The vines, around 30 to 40 years old, are planted on clay-limestone terroirs, allowing them to root deeply and express all the typicity of the region. The estate is farmed using sustainable methods, with respectful soil management and particular attention to vine health, in order to favour slow, even ripening of the grapes.
After hand-harvesting at full ripeness, the grapes are gently pressed, then the must is cold-settled before fermenting in oak barrels (barrels that have held 1 to 3 previous wines) for a natural fermentation with indigenous yeasts. Ageing, which lasts between 10 and 12 months, takes place in barrels and on fine lees, with light lees stirring, to preserve the wine’s freshness and aromatic complexity.
On tasting, the colour is golden and bright, reflecting the wine’s youth and purity. The nose, open and expressive, reveals aromas of ripe white fruit, peach, pear and citrus, accompanied by subtle notes of white flowers and a minerality typical of limestone terroirs. On the palate, the attack is clean, followed by lovely breadth and a well-defined acid backbone, bringing both generosity and freshness. The finish is long and precise, with a slight saline note, the signature of the great wines of the Mâconnais.
This Saint-Véran is ideal with seafood, fish in sauce, white poultry or light Asian cuisine. Best enjoyed at around 11-12 °C, it can be appreciated while young, but also shows its best after a few years of cellaring, during which it will gain in complexity.
