Description
The Meursault “Les Malpoiriers” 2023 from Domaine Chapelle is an exceptional cuvée that embodies all the refinement and richness of the Meursault terroir. The Malpoiriers vineyard lies on a particularly well-exposed plot, with clay-limestone soil that allows the grapes to ripen perfectly while retaining fine minerality.
The vines, farmed organically, are tended with care to respect the natural balance of the soils and plants. Yields are controlled to ensure optimal concentration of aromas and fine complexity. The harvest is carried out by hand, allowing careful sorting of the bunches, and takes place once the grapes have reached optimal ripeness, enabling them to express their full potential.
The winemaking for this Meursault Blanc 2023 follows traditional Burgundian methods, with a minimal approach that lets the terroir express itself. After gentle pressing of the grapes, the must is settled naturally at low temperature. Alcoholic fermentation takes place in oak barrels (a small proportion of them new) to add a subtle touch of oak and extra complexity while respecting the purity of the fruit. Malolactic fermentation is carried out to soften the aromas and give a rounder texture. Ageing lasts around 12 months in barrel, with regular stirring of the lees to help integrate the oak and enrich the texture.
The Meursault “Les Malpoiriers” 2023 shows a bright golden colour, typical of the great white Burgundies. The nose is elegant, offering a complex bouquet of white-fleshed fruit (pear, peach), white flowers (hawthorn, acacia) and buttery notes accompanied by subtle toasty touches and vanilla from the barrel ageing. The palate is ample, with a generous, rounded attack, yet supported by a lovely mineral freshness that perfectly balances the wine’s richness. The fruit aromas linger on the palate, carried by a silky texture and a long finish marked by a slight saline touch and a hint of hazelnut.
This Meursault 2023 is a wine of great complexity and remarkable finesse. It can be enjoyed now for its freshness and elegance, but it also has strong ageing potential, developing harmoniously for 5 to 8 years in the cellar to gain depth and complexity.
This wine pairs beautifully with refined dishes such as fish in sauce, seafood, poultry in a creamy sauce or mature cheeses. A true signature of the Meursault appellation, to be discovered and savoured on the finest occasions.
