Description
The Hermitage AOP red 2022 from Domaine Jean-François Jacouton is a prestigious cuvée that embodies the purest expression of the northern Rhône Valley terroir. Made exclusively from Syrah, this wine is grown on granite soils, typical of the Hermitage appellation, where conditions are ideal for producing powerful, complex wines. The vines, aged 35 to 50 years, are farmed sustainably, with meticulous manual work at every stage, ensuring controlled yields and optimum grape quality.
The grapes are harvested entirely by hand, with rigorous sorting to keep only the ripest fruit. After picking, the grapes are vinified using traditional methods. Fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled stainless steel vats, preserving the wine’s fruity aromas and freshness. The wine is then aged in French oak barrels for around 18 months, 30% of them new. This barrel ageing adds complexity to the wine while retaining the elegance and purity of the fruit.
On tasting, this Hermitage red shows a deep red colour with violet tints. The nose is rich and complex, with aromas of ripe black fruit (blackcurrant, blackberry) accompanied by spicy notes typical of Syrah, such as black pepper, cocoa and touches of garrigue and violet. On the palate, the attack is powerful and velvety, supported by fine, silky tannins, good structure and a freshness that balances the wine’s richness. The finish is long, marked by spicy notes and a light touch of toasted oak.
This wine is ideal with refined dishes such as duck breast with figs, roast leg of lamb or a platter of mature cheeses. With an ageing potential of 10 to 15 years, this Hermitage red 2022 will reveal even more complexity and finesse over time.
