Description
The Hermitage AOP white 2022 from Domaine Jean-François Jacouton is a prestigious cuvée, produced in limited quantities, with just 1,600 bottles. This wine, from the unique terroir of the Hermitage, perfectly embodies the great northern cru of the Rhône Valley. It is made mainly from 90% Marsanne and 10% Roussanne, the emblematic grape varieties of the appellation, grown on high-quality granite soils.
The vines, aged 35 to 45 years, are farmed according to sustainable viticulture principles, ensuring controlled yields and optimum grape quality. The entirely manual harvest allows rigorous sorting of the bunches, before the grapes are gently pressed. Fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled stainless steel vats to preserve freshness and aromatic expression. The wine is then aged in French oak barrels (20% new barrels) for around 12 months, with light stirring on fine lees, which brings a silky texture and extra complexity.
This Hermitage white reveals a pale gold colour with silvery tints. On the nose, it offers great complexity, marked by aromas of white flowers and stone fruit such as peach and apricot, accompanied by subtle notes of briny minerality and fine oak from its ageing. On the palate, the attack is broad and generous, supported by lively freshness that perfectly balances the wine’s richness. Its silky texture and well-balanced structure give way to a lingering length, marked by hints of hazelnut and honey, which prolong the tasting experience.
This white Hermitage is ideal with refined dishes such as Bresse chicken with cream and morels, sole meunière or a platter of matured cheeses. Although it can be enjoyed now, this wine has excellent ageing potential and can be kept for 5 to 10 years to reveal its full complexity.
