Description
This characterful Pinot Noir comes from the renowned slopes of Aloxe-Corton, in the north of the Côte de Beaune, close to the prestigious Grands Crus of the Corton hill. Domaine Chapelle, true to its demanding, terroir-respecting approach, offers here a precise and authentic interpretation of this emblematic climat.
The vineyard lies on clay-limestone soils rich in ferruginous marl, giving the wine a backbone that is both powerful and elegant. The vines are grown under certified organic farming, with particular care given to soil life, biodiversity and limiting inputs. The 2022/23 vintages benefited from a balanced growing cycle, alternating moderate warmth and cool nights, ensuring slow, even ripening of the grapes.
The harvest, carried out by hand, allows a rigorous selection of the berries. After partial destemming, fermentation is carried out with indigenous yeasts in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks. Extraction is gentle, through carefully managed punching down and pumping over, in order to preserve the finesse of Pinot Noir while adding depth and complexity. Ageing lasts around 12 months in French oak barrels, 20 to 30% of them new, to bring structure and elegance without masking the fruit.
On tasting, this Aloxe-Corton red shows an intense ruby colour with garnet highlights. The nose is deep, with aromas of black cherry, blackcurrant and blackberry, lifted by spicy notes (pepper, liquorice), forest floor, blond tobacco and a subtle touch of vanilla oak. On the palate, the attack is broad and structured, with dense but well-coated tannins. The balance between freshness, volume and aromatic persistence makes this a generous cuvée that gains in elegance with aeration.
This Aloxe-Corton can be enjoyed young, after decanting, but its ageing potential is remarkable: it will reach its peak between 2028 and 2035, then revealing all the complexity of the terroir. Ideal with red meats, roast game, stuffed pigeon, or a mature cheese such as Époisses or aged Comté.
