Description
The Beaujolais blanc 2022 from Georges Descombes is an elegant, refreshing interpretation of the Chardonnay grape, grown on the granite soils of Beaujolais. This wine perfectly embodies the estate’s natural approach, with environmentally friendly viticulture and fermentation without added chemicals. Georges Descombes favours integrated pest management, and his vines are farmed with close attention to biodiversity and soil quality.
The grapes are harvested by hand, allowing selective sorting of the bunches so that only perfectly ripe grapes are kept. After gentle direct pressing, the wine is fermented in a stainless steel vat to preserve its freshness and vitality. Fermentation takes place at a controlled temperature to bring out the fruit, followed by ageing on fine lees for several months, which gives the wine a silky texture and a mineral drive.
The Beaujolais blanc 2022 shows a pale yellow colour, bright and luminous. On the nose, it opens with subtle aromas of fresh white fruit such as pear, green apple and delicate touches of white flowers, accompanied by hints of citrus that bring lovely freshness. This aromatic palette stands out for its lightness and very expressive character.
On the palate, this white Beaujolais is very lively, with a fresh acidity that carries the fruit aromas and gives the wine lovely precision. Minerality is present on the back palate, bringing depth and a pleasant sense of purity. The finish is cleansing, with slightly saline notes and a return of pear and citrus, creating a wine of fine freshness and pleasant length.
This wine is ideal for drinking young, to appreciate its freshness and crisp character, but it can also be kept for a few years to develop greater complexity. It will go perfectly with seafood, grilled fish, fresh salads or hard cheeses such as Comté or Gruyère.
Served between 10 and 12°C, this white Beaujolais is an invitation to conviviality and lightness.
